THE FACTS OF LICE
*Head lice are small insects (about the size of a sesame seed, fully grown)
that live close to the scalp.
*Nits are empty white egg cases which stick to the hair and are not the
same as lice.
*Head louse infection is only present when you find an actual living,
moving louse. (not a nit)
*Head lice spread when sustained, direct head to head contact allows them
to walk from one head to another. They cannot fly, jump or swim.
*Anybody can get head lice, adults and children, those with short, long,
clean or dirty hair.
*A lot of head louse infections are caught from close family and friends
in the home and community, not always at school.
*The best way to stop infection is for families to check their heads regularly
(once a week if possible) using detection combing.
The schools policy for children infected with head lice is to keep children
at home until the infestation has cleared. Treatment packs are available
from the school office at $7.00 for two treatments.
